Our ONE-TO-ONE Befriending volunteers help to combat loneliness and isolation by making regular visits to older people in their homes, providing companionship and a listening ear.
This service is open to residents of Kensington & Chelsea who are aged 55 and over, housebound and are struggling with isolation due to being unable to leave their property. If you are mobile or has specialist needs, you may find more suitable services below.
Due to mobility issues or a lack of confidence, leaving the house can be a daunting prospect for many older people. Our Escorting volunteers are on hand to help people to get out and about, whether it's on foot, public transport or by taxi.
Our Practical Help service is open to Kensington & Chelsea residents over the age of 55 who need some help with small tasks around the house.
We organise shopping trips for people who cannot use public transport due to disability or frailty, so that they can continue to do their own shopping. Trips are run every Wednesday and Thursday to supermarkets in and around west London.
The At Home Service from Age UK Kensington & Chelsea offers a range of personally tailored packages of care and support for older people in the Kensington & Chelsea.
Age UK Kensington and Chelsea at Home service supports older people with:
Food and groceries shopping
Housekeeping, cleaning, and light domestic tasks
Help prepare light meals
help to de-clutter or have seasonal a tidy up
Change bedding and laundry
Escort to appointments
Collect your prescriptions, dry cleaning, help with paperwork or do your shopping (take you or go for you)
Our footcare service is run by trained footcare practitioners. They can clip toe nails and check your feet for any problems. We have several locations you can visit to access this service.
You need to contact your GP who will send us a referral in order to access this service.
If you, or someone you know, are aged over 55 and a Kensington & Chelsea resident living with dementia or memory difficulties, we can offer support and advice in a range of ways, both in groups and on a one-to-one basis.

MYcommunity: for People in Need of Support
We provide brief-intervention, social prescribing support, allowing each person space and time to focus on what matters to them. Each offer of support is individual and could include:
Providing information and support around housing or finances, including help with claiming benefits.
Introducing you to a new activity or local club
Linking you in with services and organisations in your local area
Helping you to be more active
Our PCN Linkworkers
Based in primary care settings across the borough. They provide a social prescribing service, similar to MYcommunity, but focused on working with patients referred by GPs. They are now linked with our Neighbourhood teams. The Gateway Helpline 0333 360 3700.
Is used as the Council's coronavirus helpline, so can offer information, advice and support for anyone in need. Our services are open to anyone over the age of 18, in need of support. If anyone is need of urgent support, then please call the Gateway helpline. It is open Monday to Friday (excluding bank holidays) from 9:30 am to 4:30 pm. MYneighbour:
MYneighbour is host to a number of services. Friendship our original befriending service has adapted to be almost exclusively Phone Friends. We have over 400 volunteer Phone Friends making calls to our Borough's most isolated citizens. We also coordinate referrals with a number of other VCSE providers.
If you are speaking to someone whom you think would benefit from a friendly voice calling them once or twice a week, then please make an online referral, or give us a call to discuss further.
The MYneighbour phoneline is open from 9-5 pm weekdays, on 0203 1435 836.
HandyFix: The HandyFix team work closely with MYneighbour to support the work of our neighbourhood teams. They also work closely with our Hospital to Home service, ensuring homes are ready for the patient returning!
HandyFix is able to do a range of jobs to help keep people safe in their homes. Our rate is £20.00 per hour for each job. Please call for a specific quote as each job varies and there might be additional charges for items being installed. Examples of jobs are:
Changing lightbulbs
Checking/Fitting smoke alarms
Moving furniture to make room for a hospital bed
Assemble furniture
Put up shelves/pictures/mirrors etc...
Fit curtain rails/tracks and blinds.
Footcare Service:

Our service is provided by an external team of experienced and qualified podiatrists from Excellent care 1st Podiatry who are dedicated to delivering the best possible care to our clients. £30.00 per session.

Homemakers:
We want to relieve clients of any stress or anxiety caused by carrying out their daily tasks (important note: this service does not involve any personal care).
The service will be available 7 days a week (9 - 5 pm weekdays and 10 - 4 pm on weekends). All services are will be charged at £20.00 per hour.
Volunteering.

Hospital Discharge Service.
We work closely with Adult Social Care to support patients in moving from the hospital back home as easily as possible. Not only do we talk with patients on the ward, to help them think about what going home would look like, but we also offer really practical support to get their accommodation ready to be a home again. This can include cleaning, moving furniture, changing bedding, doing a bit of shopping, and checking heat and light are working! Demetia Services
Our Dementia services are drop-in groups open to anyone affected by dementia, including carers. We offer a range of activities, from arts and crafts to singing, music, and summer day trips. You’ll always find a good chat, a cuppa and lots of laughter! The groups have:

MYsocial
MYsocial was set up by Age UK Lambeth to help people discover friendships, connect with their community, and do things that make them happy. Our goals are to have a real impact on the ability of older people to live independent lives, support their own well-being and actively contribute to society. MYsocial is a monthly calendar of social events and activities. Activities currently take place over Zoom due to the pandemic, however normally we would arrange public events in the community. Events are extremely varied, and we aim to help people of all ages have fun together, build friendships, learn new things and get active - as a group together! Independent Living Services
Age UK Lewisham and Southwark offer a range of Independent Living Services to help you to stay healthy and independent in your home for as long as possible. These include a Handyperson service (Southwark only), Help at Home (cleaning and shopping service) and Happy Feet (toenail cutting service).
SAIL
Southwark Safe and Independent Living (SAIL) and Lewisham SAIL Connections provide a quick and simple way to access a wide range of local services to support older people in maintaining their independence, safety and wellbeing. Community Connections
Community Connections is a development and access-facilitation project with a preventative health and wellbeing focus. It is delivered by Age UK Lewisham and Southwark in conjunction with a consortium of voluntary sector partners in Lewisham.

Healthy Living Centre (Yalding)
Our aim is to maintain and improve physical and mental wellbeing and to promote an active lifestyle. We support and encourage people who use the service to maintain a good and healthy lifestyle, rekindling old friendships and making new friends. Anybody over 55 is always welcome to drop in to our Yalding Healthy Living Centre in Bermondsey.
